Activities

Sailing – The Bay of Islands has over 144 islands and is one of the most beautiful sailing destinations in the world.

Cruising – Power boats are available to explore the islands and lunch is included with most charters.  Various options are available.

Kayaking – Enjoy an opportunity to get close to dolphins, blue penguins, seals and sometimes orca that frequent these waters. A trained guide will provide paddling training and education about the native habitat as you explore quiet sandy beaches, natural rock caves or the outer islands.

Big Game Fishing – Made famous by the American writer and adventurer Zane Grey who held the record for catching the largest of several species for many years, today tuna, mahi-mahi and kingfish abound in the blue water, along with the large marlin and sharks.

Deep Sea Fishing – Many varieties of large fish abound including snapper which can later be prepared and cooked to your specifications.

Saltwater Fly Fishing - For thrilling fly fishing there are plenty of challenges with local snapper, kingfish and kahawai.

Dolphin watching – This is the natural habitat for bottlenose dolphins, whales and other marine life.  Ecologically sensitive tour operators offer trips that may allow swimming with the dolphins if conditions prove favourable.

Private charters – Private charters are available to provide a tranquil sailing experience.

Diving – All levels of divers can be catered for with a diverse range of experiences to be had. The waters are home to an abundant and sometimes unusual, sea life. Wreck dives are also available within a short travel distance.  For a uniquely exceptional dive experience, you may want to visit the Poor Knights Islands where Jacques Cousteau rated the area as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.

Fast boat tours, group tours, water sports and parasailing are also available.

Helicopter adventures – Scenic flights of different lengths are available to tour the local area or further beyond. Your villa has two heli pads. Personalized adventure tours including beach picnic drop-offs and pickups can also be arranged.

Scenic flights – a wide selection of flights can be arranged, including being met at the Auckland International Airport and taking a scenic flight of all the key locations on the way to your villa. A comfortable shuttle service will meet you at the airport to proceed by land, or you may wish to take a helicopter to the villa.

Sky diving – For an exciting thrill you may go sky diving with an instructor for a tandem dive.  For the serious or experienced sky divers, solo jumps are available.

Horse trekking – An enjoyable way to experience the landscape may take you through bird-filled forests or an exhilarating ride along a beach. Horse rides are available for all levels of ability and age.

The villa is around 200 km from Auckland International Airport. You may want to travel by road or take a flight to the Bay of Islands.
